In 2016, the City established the Phillip D. Penland Tribute Fund to help cover league registration fees for baseball and softball players who might not otherwise to able to participate. Named after former city manager and avid baseball fan, the fund continues Mr. Penland's philanthropic legacy and has expanded to also fund flag football, cheerleading and basketball. With the simple motto of "Everybody Plays," the Penland fund is making a difference in the lives of our youth and our community.
