Westmonte Park Renovation
When the Spring Oaks neighborhood was under development in the early 1970s, planners included a park facility for area residents to enjoy. Spring Oaks Recreation Center, as it was known then, was a private club that included a civic center, pool, baseball fields and basketball and tennis courts.
In 1978, the City purchased the fully-developed sports facility to expand its recreation department. Renamed Westmonte Park, it offered senior division Little League baseball, girls softball, summer camp and swim lessons.
Over the years, the City has made changes and upgrades to the park, most notably the addition of the therapeutic pool in 1988. This amenity was created to provide warm water exercise classes and rehabilitation therapy to the community.
A Fresh Start
Nearly 50 years of wear and tear have taken its toll on the park, so the City plans a complete renovation that will allow this beloved park to serve residents for decades to come. The entire facility is being leveled to make way for a modernization that will strengthen the infrastructure while providing improved patron mobility and safety.
With this progress comes temporary inconvenience. Construction is estimated to take 14 months. All programs and activities, including camps, swim lessons, football, cheer, tennis, gymnastics, bocce and therapeutic pool sessions, will be postponed until the park reopens as the newly-named Westmonte Recreation Center in Spring 2019.
The center incorporates modern architecture with upgraded amenities including:
- Outdoor Pool & Deck—consists of a zero-depth entry play area with interactive water features, open swim and lesson area, lap lanes for exercise and competitive swimming, shade canopies and locker rooms
- Multi-Purpose Room—a 4,695-square-foot room for events, classes and programs
- Therapeutic Pool
- Senior Activity Room
- Park Restrooms
- 100-Person Pavilion
- 2 Tennis Courts
- 3 Pickleball Courts
- Basketball Courts
- 4 Bocce Courts
- Multi-Purpose Field
- 192 Parking Spaces
The City greatly appreciates your patience as we work to revitalize Westmonte Park. We encourage you to visit our other parks during the downtime.
